Additional Details

  • Our Spot Prawns are wild-caught in the icy waters of the Bering Sea in Alaska on Fishing Vessel Born Again, captained by Matt Lawrie. He and his crew catch Spot Prawns in pots and process them by hand daily when they're in season.

  • Each Spot Prawn is harvested and processed on the boat, and once aboard, each prawn is individually quick-frozen. Our prawns won't be stuck together and bound by ice – you could thaw them one-by-one!

  • With wild-caught prawns comes wild-caught prawn roe. Some prawns may have this edible roe attached under their back fins. You can eat the roe, or simply wipe it off.

  • Each order is packed with dry ice so that it stays completely frozen while en route to your doorstep.

How To Prepare

  • The lobster of Alaska! Spot prawns provide an extremely sweet taste with a meaty bite. They're the size of a shrimp, with a taste and texture that resemble lobster.

  • Prepare your prawns like you would prepare shrimp. They're great served with linguine, and are most popularly served in sushi or ceviche.

  • Before preparing, remove your desired amount of prawns from the original package and place them in a plastic bag to thaw in the refrigerator for 6-8 hours. (Never thaw seafood with hot water – learn more safe thawing tips here.)

+
-

You’ll find approximately 20-26 spot prawns in a 1.5 lb order.

What’s the difference between a shrimp and a prawn?
+

The technical difference between shrimp and prawns has to do with the number of claws. Shrimp have one pair of legs with claws, where as prawns have three pairs of legs with claws. Size-wise, shrimp and prawns are similar, but from a taste perspective, prawns are much sweeter than shrimp.

What do Alaskan Spot Prawns taste like?
+
-

Spot prawns provide an extremely sweet taste with a meaty bite. They're the size of a shrimp, with a taste and texture that resemble lobster.

What does it mean that your spot prawns are individually quick frozen?
+
-

It means just that! Each spot prawn is frozen individually – they are processed by hand, and placed in a flash freezer which brings the core temperature down to -35° F. Processing and freezing happens as soon as the prawns are brought aboard the boat which results in the fresh-off-the-dock taste.

How long can I keep my Alaskan Spot Prawns in the freezer?
+
-

All of our products will stay good in the freezer for several months. However, for the best taste and texture, we recommend enjoying them within 2-3 months.
