  • 1 cup of sliced okra
  • 1 cup of diced onion
  • 1 cup of diced celery
  • 1 cup of diced bell pepper
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons of Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 4 cups of seafood broth or chicken broth
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice for serving (white or brown)

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the flour and stir to combine, cooking until it turns a light brown color.
  2. Add the onion, celery, bell pepper, garlic, and okra to the pot. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Add the Cajun seasoning, thyme, and smoked paprika to the pot and stir to combine.
  4. Pour in the broth and add the can of diced tomatoes. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Add the crab meat and shrimp to the pot and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the seafood is fully cooked through.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the gumbo over a bed of white or brown cooked rice. Enjoy!
